Snazzarooy Founders, Jennifer Nietfeld and Jessica Royer

Jessica Royer and Jennifer Nietfeld have been together as best buds, schoolmates, roommates, colleagues, business partners, maids of honor, parents, godparents, teachers of young children, teachers of young children with autism, and collectors of unique and motivating teaching toys for over 20 years. SnazzaRoo Toys is the latest collaboration of Jen and Jess. It was born out of the observation that the parents and teachers/therapists of young children, especially young children with special needs, are busy and the need for easy, home-based, one-stop shopping was evident. And well…because we LOVE toys, “some people connoisseurs of fine wines, we are connoisseurs of fine toys!!”

SnazzaRoo toys (SR +oys) is actually a sneaky nod to the science behind Jess and Jen’s work: behavior analysis. In boring, scientific terms: something that is motivating, reinforcing, or increases the likelihood that previous behaviors will occur is written as SR+, thus the S became Snazza, the R became Roo, and the + became the t for toys. The toys that we offer at SnazzaRoo are fun and exciting for everyone, but have also been time tested with children with autism. We look for toys that have the potentially motivating qualities that kids enjoy: dizzy, blinky, zoomy, squishy, and noisy. We also look for toys that can be used in a variety of ways to teach different concepts: verbs, nouns, attributes… You will see that under the description of each toy, we have included some ideas of what to teach while the child enjoys playing.

As SnazzaRoo develops and changes over time, we hope to include teaching kits, assessment kits, teaching materials, more toys, and written materials that can be used with all kids and by parents and interventionists alike.
